China’s Imports & Exports Continued to Improve Stable and Quality Upgrading

Known as the “barometer of foreign trade”, the 125th Canton fair closed on May 5 with a total export volume of 19.5 billion yuan.Since the beginning of this year, in the face of a complex external environment, China’s foreign trade has continued to maintain a steady and progressive momentum of development, and the internal driving force has been strengthened.

In the first four months of this year, China’s imports and exports of goods totaled 9.51 trillion yuan, up 4.3 percent from the same period last year. Exports totaled 5.06 trillion yuan, up 5.7 percent. Imports totaled 4.45 trillion yuan, up 2.9 percent.

General secretary Xi Jinping has pointed out that we should accelerate the transformation from a major trading nation to a powerful trading nation, consolidate our traditional advantages in foreign trade, foster new competitive advantages, expand the space for foreign trade development, and actively expand imports.

China will account for 12.8 percent of global exports and 10.8 percent of global imports in 2018, making it a “stabilizer” for global trade, according to data released by the world trade organization.Although the current situation of foreign trade development is still serious, but China’s development is still in an important period of strategic opportunities, the stable development of foreign trade has many favorable factors.We have the confidence to maintain steady growth of our foreign trade.

Li Kuiwen, spokesman for the general administration of customs, said China’s increasingly open door and stable foreign trade policies are showing their effects, which will effectively promote the transformation and upgrading of foreign trade and enhance the vitality of enterprises. This year, China will further improve trade facilitation, continue to improve the business environment at ports, help foreign trade enterprises to carry out light cargo, and promote steady progress in foreign trade.
